A large-format engraved landscape scene fills the centre field, rendered in fine cross-hatching across a cream ground and depicting a panoramic Franconian settlement with fortified town walls, water mills, cultivated fields, and scattered figures and livestock across multiple planes of depth. The beer name 'Holzschnitt' is set in bold condensed capitals down the centre in oxblood red, with 'Red Lager' in smaller serif type below. The left and right edges carry narrow vertical panels in oxblood with regulatory text in cream, framing the composition. The overall effect evokes a 16th-century engraved map or city prospect.
